Canada is seeing a shift in phone usage as more and more households go for cell phone usage. In 2008 Canadians who had given up their landline phone accounted for eight out of hundred whereas the same increased to 13 out of 100 households by 2011.
16 out of 100 Canadians have now shifted to using various combinations of phone services that do not use a traditional landline. Close to 4 percent Canadians use voice over phone internet for their phone facility.
The age group amongst households which was using cell phone comprised of the 18 to 34 category comprising of 50 percent of households. A study conducted by the Convergence Consulting Group has a prediction that 26 out of 100 households will avail only cell phone facility by 2014.
According to Marc Choma, of the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association more and more people will be using more of their cell phone service in spite of having landlines.
Telephone company Telus, considers age as an important factor in determining customer's choice for going for wireless phone service. According to Shawn Hall, of Telus, a university student might just need a cell phone but a married couple with children needs a landline too.

A recent study conducted at Lowa has reported that only 27 % of Lowan citizens who are aged 70 and more subscribe to high-speed Internet, and 50% of these citizens don't even possess a computer.
A nonprofit subsidiary of Connection has come up in Lowa which endorses acceptance and usage of broadband access as well as high speed internet. This has been done to create partnerships with communities and bridge the technology gap existing in Iowa with the senior citizens.
According to this new report, the aim of this project is to offer senior citizens with an access to lifesaving applications and services which are possible to have only with the home subscription of high speed internet.
Amy Kuhlers, who is a state program manager for Connect Iowa said that "The main concern is that there are a number of applications which most of the senior citizens are unfamiliar with." He further added that high-speed internet is inevitable for stress-free access to government services, healthcare resources, banking tools as well as shopping options.
The report reveals that 39 % of Iowa's seniors don't understand the importance and association of high speed internet to their lives and 24 % reported that they are not aware of the usage of the computer and Internet.
